New Lifts in New Buildings

It is important to get the lift consultant engaged at an early stage of the design.

Located centrally within the UK and operating nationally, Liftsurvey is ideally placed to help you.

LIFTSURVEY consultants will help the design team convert the initial ideas into a working solution that can be translated into a drawing for approval.

There are many questions to be answered before any detail can be decided but it is important to remember that the first thing a visitor sees on entering your building is the reception area, the second thing is the lift. Lift finishes, colours and operating buttons are all vital components that create an impression on passengers. They have to be right.

YOU NEED THE SERVICES OF A LIFTSURVEY CONSULTANT

There are many questions to be answered at the early stage of lift design.

Q1. How many lifts are needed to move the people in your building quickly?
A1. A traffic analysis will be required. Quite a complicated calculation that depends on the number of people in the building, what type of building i.e. shopping centre, hotel, office building etc. and also linked to some of the questions below.

Q2. What capacity, how many people should your new lift carry?
A2. If the lift needs to comply with the Disability Discrimination Act the minimum size should be 8 persons (630Kg). The lift may need to have a larger capacity depending on the building population, number of floors served etc.

Q3. Should your new lift have a traditional machine room or be of the machine roomless (MRL) design?
A3. Planning restrictions and the use of the lift will be among other considerations. MRL lifts can save considerable building costs but they are not suitable for all applications.

Q4. At what speed should the lift travel?
A4. This mostly depends on the height of the building but the speed of the lifts will affect their handling capacity and be linked to all the other questions.

Q5. Should it be a hydraulic lift or an electric lift?
A5. This depends on the application, goods only lifts, passenger lifts or goods/passenger lifts? This basic question is also linked to all the other questions.

Q6. What standards will my new lift need to comply with?
A6. The Lifts Regulations and British Standard BS EN81:1998 in all its relevant parts.
